Casual Dining in Miami
Taste
Bakery Cafe
www.tastebakerycafe.com
This cool South Beach eatery during the day
serves up smoothies, salads, wraps and sandwiches. Offerings include
the bruschetta bagel, toasted and topped with a tangy mix of fresh
Roma tomatoes, basil and garlic; the roasted eggplant, panini;
and the pesto-chicken sandwich. Drink your double-cafe-half-cafe-decafe-late-chia-tea
on indoors or at the outdoor tables while surfing the Web using
free Wi-Fi access.
Front Porch Cafe
1418 Ocean Drive
Located on Ocean Drive, this is a favorite
breakfast spot for locals who like good food and service at the
South Beach. Nobody here is in a rush. Dig into huge breakfasts
like French toast with bananas and walnuts, omelettes stuffed
with grilled veggies and Jack cheese, or blueberry pancakes the
size of a steering wheel. The lunch menu features standard but
tasty salads and sandwiches, including a great chicken Caesar
and an exceptionally good burger. Wear a traditional Miami Beach
sundress, sweats or a bathing suit and you'll be in like flynn.
This place should be called: the fresh food cafe.
Nexxt
Cafe
700 Lincoln Rd
Prime people-watching and a huge 18-page menu
on trendy Lincoln Road in Miami Beach. This place has something
for everyone. A healthy mix of low-key locals and wide-eyed tourists
take in the nonstop circus that is Lincoln Road. While Nexxt serves
upscale entrees like New York steak and grilled mahi-mahi, the
real winners are the huge salads and thick sandwiches. Prices
are good and portions are huge. It's like the cheescake factory
outdoors, with people, people, people! everywhere!
Scotty's Landing
Coconut Grove
This hard-to-find seafood restaurant is one
of the best places in town to get a feel for old Miami and the
Marina. Outdoors, on the water, under a tree, lights are down,
live guitar playing. Grab a table as close to the water as you
can, sit back, and relax. You'll need to because service is slow,
although friendly. This has locals written all over it. Particularly
good are the she-crab soup, dolphin sandwich, and the Key lime
pie. After dinner you can cruise through trendy Coconut Grove
and Cocowalk for shopping, movies, Starbucks and dancing. If you
are visiting Miami, then Scotty's Landing is a MUST.
